What happened to Better Click To Tweet?

If you’ve been using this plugin for a while, you might have noticed a new name: Better Click to Share. Same plugin, same shortcode, same block—just a fresh coat of paint to match the fact that people share on X (formerly Twitter) and the web in general. Here’s what’s going on and why I’m excited about what’s next.

I’m back in the saddle

WordPress 7.0 and the direction of the platform have me genuinely energized again. I’ve been spending real time on this plugin and the premium add-ons, and a huge part of that is the Abilities API coming into WordPress core.

If you haven’t dug in yet: the Abilities API is WordPress’s way of letting plugins safely expose “things this site can do” to AI and other tools—with your permission and under your control. For Better Click to Share, that’s a game changer. Instead of you having to guess the best tweet text for a quote, the editor can ask for suggestions that respect your voice, your length limits, and the fact that the link back to the post has to fit. The “Suggest X Content” experience we quietly shipped in version 5.15 (just before the rebrand) is just the start. I believe the Abilities API alone is going to revolutionize how BCTS fits into your workflow: smarter suggestions, less busywork, same reliability you’ve had for years. I’m going deep on this because I think it’s the right moment for the plugin to level up.

More places to share? Maybe.

I’d love to eventually support sharing to LinkedIn, Facebook, and Reddit—not just X. I don’t have immediate plans or a timeline, but I’m curious whether that’s something you’d use. If it is, or if you have strong opinions one way or the other, I’d really like to hear from you. Head over to the contact page and weigh in. Your input will shape how I think about the roadmap.

Existing users: nothing’s breaking

If you’re already using Better Click to Share (or the old name), you shouldn’t see any problems or even any real difference in how things work. The rebrand is exactly that: a new name and updated copy. The shortcode is still [bctt], the block is the same, and I’m committed to keeping everything working as long as the platforms allow it.

Existing premium users: you’re taken care of

If you’ve been paying for premium add-ons for a long time, thank you. You’ve kept this thing going. I’m making sure you’re rewarded. Whatever the new plan looks like as we roll out new features, you will get access for no additional charge—guaranteed. I’m even looking at ways to give long-time premium users something like lifetime access. You’ve had my back; I’ve got yours.

So: new name, same reliability, and a lot more excitement behind the scenes. If you have questions or just want to say hi, reach out. Happy sharing.
